Israel Adesanya will get his rematch against Sean Strickland, according to UFC boss Dana White.
Adesanya on Sunday lost his middleweight title to the American at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia.
The Nigerian born New Zealander was totally outclassed, by Strickland who took the match on short notice after South Africa’s Dricus Du Plessis pulled out due to injury.
Speaking on the next step, UFC boss Dana White said Israel Adesanya, has earned the right to be given a rematch against Sean Strickland.
“I think you do the rematch, absolutely. The rematch is interesting, only Israel knows the answers to these questions and I’m looking forward to hearing it,” White said while addressing how poorly Adesanya fought.
Strickland won by a unanimous decision and the win goes down as one of the biggest upsets in MMA history.
Dana also said he has no idea why Adesanya performed poorly against the lowly rated opponent.
“Israel looked like he was in slow motion and he couldn’t get off, he was very stiff tonight and looked slow. Some days you wake up and it’s just not there, he looked bone dry tonight (Sunday).”
Adesanya left the octagon with a swollen eye and bloodied lip as a result of his loss.
