Veteran striker Mfon Udoh denies Akwa United sack reports

Former Enyimba forward Mfon Udoh has explained the reason behind his exit from Nigeria Professional Football League Champions Akwa United.

Several reports circulated the media on Monday that the veteran attacker was sacked by his hometown Club after their exit from CAF Champions League.

The reports claimed that Mfon Udoh led other prominent members of the team to protest against the management over unpaid allowances, before Akwa United’s CAF Champions League second leg game against CR Belouizdad in Algeria.

Contrary to what has been in the media, the former Enyimba Captain, denied he was axed by the club and explained why they parted ways.

“I am surprised to see this report. My loan contract with Akwa United has expired. I do not know where the report that I was sacked for being part of a protest is coming from without any verification just to label me black.”

“My relationship with Akwa United has been intact and I was duly communicated about my contract situation by the club in writing four days ago. I don’t want to dwell much on that. I am looking forward to a new chapter of my career and I thank Akwa United for the many opportunities I have had at the club.”

Mfon Udoh rejoined Akwa United for his third stint at the beginning of last season after his unproductive spell with American side FC Tusla.

The prolific goalscorer helped Kennedy Boboye’s side win the league for the first time in their history.
