“I took the Super Eagles from 67th to 36th in the world ranking” – Rohr defends tenure

Former coach Gernot Rohr has defended his time as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria – saying the team made progress under his guidance.

Rohr was sacked by the NFF on after five years and four months in charge of the three-time African champions.

The Nigerian Football Governing Body bowed to pressure from the fans and press, following the team’s abysmal performances towards the end of World Cup qualifiers.

On his part, Rohr stated that team played better in those matches and were unlucky to not win.

He said, the team made overall progress under his watch and left them in a great position to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

“Opinions are not all the same but everybody will see the facts. The facts are that we came from No. 67 in the world to No. 36. From No.13 in Africa to No. five. And we will be in the top five [in Africa]for the World Cup draw, which is very important for the playoffs.” He told ESPN.
