Cooper tasks Awoniyi to keep Nottingham Forest in the Premier League

Manager Steve Cooper is banking on Taiwo Awoniyi to help Nottingham Forest retain its Premier League status.

Awoniyi missed most of the second half of the campaign due to injury, but has hit the ground running since his return.

He’s scored four goals in the last two games, helping the club pick four points from a possible six to boost their chances of survival.

His latest double came at Chelsea and it improved his tally to eight goals in 28 league games.

Cooper is happy with Awoniyi’s form but hopes the Nigerian can help the club achieve its objective this season.

“We’ve been really happy with Taiwo. He showed a great attitude and commitment to getting back in the way he did.

“He hit the ground running as soon as we got him back on the pitch. Now he’s turning good performances into good performances with goals.

“That’s what you want and what you need from your strikers. Let’s hope he can carry on in the next two games.”

Nottingham Forest are three points above the drop, with two games left to play.
