Semi Ajayi says the Super Eagles are relieved to get back to winning ways in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign after a shocking home defeat to Guinea-Bissau last Friday.
The Eagles claimed a 1-0 win in the return fixture played at the Estaádio de 24 Setembro on Monday.
Simon Moses’ first-half penalty was all Nigeria needed to reclaim top position in the Group A.
“It’s a very important result in terms of qualification for the AFCON, and it put us back on top of the group,
“We lost last Friday and it’s important to come away with a win,” He said after the game in Bissau.
Ajayi was one of the five changes Jose Peseiro made to the team that lost on Friday.
The CB partnered Kenneth Omeruo in defense, and the duo kept the Wild Dogs quiet for most part of the game.
“It’s a blessing anytime I get to play for my country. Weather it’s a minute or 90 minutes, I don’t take it lightly. It was nice to start and help come away with a win,” He concluded.
