Algerian FA Boycotts CAF Awards, Protests Mahrez’s Exclusion

The President of Algeria Football Federation, Walid Sadi says he won’t be attending this year’s CAF Awards ceremony scheduled to take place in Morocco.

Sadi took the decision the exclusion of winger Riyad Mahrez from the final three of the Men’s player of the year category.

Mahrez was a surprise omission from the final list nominees unveiled by CAF on Thursday.

The forward won the historical UEFA Champions League, English Premier League and FA Cup treble with Manchester City, contributing 17 goals and 19 assists.

Addressing the media, Sadi stated:

“I will not attend the CAF Awards ceremony. I have informed CAF of my decision, and, with the grace of God, no Algerian will be present at this event in solidarity with Riyad Mahrez and the Union Sportive de la Medina d’Alger.”

Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, Egypt’s Mohammed Salah and Moroccan defender Achraf Hakimi are the final nominees. The winner will be announced later tonight.
