Hon. Ayo Omidiran has told the Super Falcons to go all out for needed victory against the Shepolopolo of Zambia in their second match at the 11th Women Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana on Wednesday.
The eight-time champions were stunned by the Bayana Bayana of South Africa in the opening game of Group B on Sunday, the loss placed the Falcons third on the log behind the Zambians who thrashed Equatorial Guinea 5:0 and South Africa.
While addressing the players after their training session in Cape Coast on Tuesday, Hon. Omidiran said the team should remember the feat of 2002 Falcons team who lost the opening game.to Ghana’s Black Queens only to eventually beat the Queens to win the title.
“It’s not like you can’t do it. We believe you can. It is not the first time we are losing a group match at the Women Africa Cup of Nations.
Remember in 2002 when we lost to Ghana, we saw it as an insult because we were playing at home. After that defeat, we went ahead to defeat every team we played and then defeated the Ghanaians in the final to lift the trophy. So, let history repeat itself”.
She added that Nigerians were hurt by the defeat to South Africa because they have so much Faith in the team, being the most successful Africa most Women National Team.
“The reason why Nigerians are shattered is that we have so much confidence in you and you took things for granted. We all know that it will be a great pleasure for Nigerians if you pick the World Cup ticket and retain the trophy.”
The match between the Shepolopolo of Zambia and the Super Falcons will kick off at 3.30pm Ghana time (4.30pm Nigeria time).
