Banyana Banyana Defender Downplays Pressure Ahead of Olympic Qualifier

Ahead of the upcoming Women’s Olympic Qualifying CAF clash between Banyana Banyana and the Super Falcons, defender Lebohang Ramalepe remains unfazed by the high stakes of the match.

Scheduled for Friday, the first-leg of the fixture will take place at Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

Ramalepe expressed confidence despite the African Champions under pressure to secure a ticket to the quadrennial sports event.

She emphasized the challenge of achieving a favorable outcome in Abuja and highlighted the importance of leveraging their home advantage in the return leg on April 9 at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria.

“To be honest, this is going to be a tough game. Remember, both teams didn’t qualify for the last Olympics. So, it’s a do-or-die,” said Ramalepe, as cited by iol.co.za.

“But we are ready because we know how important the game is. It’s just a matter of going there and doing our best on the day,” added the 32-year-old.

The victor of this match will join Brazil, Japan, and Spain in Group C of the Women’s Football Tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games – the one-month long event is scheduled to run between July and August.
