Super Eagles forward, Sunday Faleye has told Brila.net that the team indeed did ask the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to hold on to their bonuses at a point during the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Faleye was a key member of Salisu Yusuf’s team to CHAN and was crucial for them until the quarter-final when he picked an injury that ruled him out for the rest of the competition.
The Super Eagles eventually progressed to the final; the first time in three outings, but finished as runner-up after losing 4-0 to Morocco in the final.
There had been conflicting reports about the NFF’s ability to the players their bonuses, although media officer of the team Toyin Ibitoye confirmed at the time that keeping the monies had been on the behest of the players.
Confirming the actual development in Morocco, Faleye told brila.net that the players indeed asked the FA to keep their bonuses until the campaign was concluded.
‘Yes. At a point when we got to Morocco we; the players, weren’t thinking about our money.
‘We told the NFF to hold on to our bonuses because we were focused on getting the job done and making history at the CHAN,’ Faleye explained.
