He scored the opening goal in the 36th minute following a good work from debutant Cameron Archer.

The victory made it nine wins from 13 league games for Carrick, who took the manager’s job in October after Boro had slipped into the relegation places.
Meanwhile the defeat leaves Watford in fourth – one point behind Middlesbrough.
