Etebo gaffe costs Stoke, as Preston pound Potters in 3-1 win

Two wins in their last twenty-two championship games! Stoke City are on a very bad run and on Wednesday night against Preston the Potters showed why they are indeed a troubled side.

Stoke could not rise above the rot, falling to a 3-1 loss on the road, and Oghenekaro Etebo was culpable for one of the goals.

Etebo came on from the bench just before the hour mark, showed some of the flashes that saw him emerge as the player of the year last season.

However, the spark quickly faded when the Nigerian midfielder threaded a cross field pass intended for teammate Joe Allen.

It was ill-timed and misread but it fell kindly to an opposition player, who then took on three Stoke City players. His initial shot was saved by the goalkeeper, but a rebound from another teammate saw the host extend their lead to 3-0.

A consolation strike from James McClean couldn’t undo the hurt and damage to Stoke City’s run in the opening weeks of the new season.

The Potters currently sit bottom of the 24-team log, with a single point from four matches.
