FIFA FIFPro World 11 votes underway

Voting for the best 11 players of the 2016/17 season has opened and FIFA says it has revamped the process with football players’ group FIFPro.

The World governing body said the FIFA FIFPro World 11 will be based on over 60,000 votes cast by footballers across the globe in 76 countries.

The FIFA FIFPro World 11, which will be announced at The Best FIFA Football Awards in London on Monday 23 October, will consist of one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders, and three forwards.

The worldwide poll, which previously covered club and international performances over a calendar year, has changed format to align with the majority of competitions that run from August to June, the world body explained.

Players will select their best eleven based on the 2016/17 season, up to and including the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017, which concluded last Sunday 2 July with Germany’s 1-0 victory over Chile in the final in Saint Petersburg.

This is the 13th edition of the FIFA FIFPro World 11 since the award’s initial launch by FIFPro, the World Players’ Union, in 2005. The award merged with FIFA in 2009.
