Heartbreak for Mikel as Stoke City bows to Ekong’s Watford at Vicarage road

Former Super Eagles Captain John Mikel Obi was on the losing side his club Stoke City suffered 3 – 2 against Watford on Wednesday.

Mikel and his teammates went into the game at the back of their 1 – 0 win over Rotterham last weekend and they quickly settled into life at Vicarage Road last night.

 

Steven Fletcher gave the Potters the lead inside opening two minute, courtesy of an assists from Nick Powell.

 

Watford later restored parity in the 28th minute, thanks to fine finish from former Manchester united and Everton midfielder Tom Cleverley.

 

In the second half, Watford found themselves in front for the first time after Joao Pedro converted a penaltyjust after the hour mark.

 

However, it was the turn of Stoke City to respond and they did just that with eight minute left in regulation time Nick Powell scored equaliser from Tyrese Campbell’s pass.

 

When Mikel and his teammates thought they have secured a point, Ismaila Sar had another idea as he scored the winner for Watford in added time.

 

Mikel was shown a yellow card in the game and his compatriot, William Troost-Ekong was left on the bench for the entire duration of the game for Watford.
