Heartbreak for Okereke and Dessers in Serie A season Opener

David Okereke scored for Cremonese on his Serie A debut, but it wasn’t enough to earn them a point against Fiorentina.

Okereke and his compatriot Cyriel Dessers joined the newly promoted side this summer and they were handed their full debut against the Viola at the Stadio Franchi.

Aside from getting a goal, Okereke earned himself a yellow card and was eventually subbed off, while Dessers played the entire minutes.

Giacomo Bonaventura put the hosts in front after 16 minute, but Davide Okereke’s bullet header cancelled out the goal three minutes later.

Fiorentina reclaimed their lead in the 34th minute, thanks to a beautiful strike from Luca Jovic.

Things went from bad to worse for Cremonese two minutes before the break as their Argentine import Gonzalo Escalante was shown a straight red.

Despite playing with ten man, the visitors found a way back into the game in the second half, after Matteo Bianchetti tapped home Alessandro Buonaiuto’s corner to restore parity.

Cremonese’s goalkeeper Radu made a series of fine saves to keep his side in the game, only to ruin it all with a costly error in the 95th minute after allowing Rolando Mandragora cross-shot to slip into the net.
