Defender Ashleigh Plumptre has clarified that she didn’t hold any grudges against England, as she valued the experiences playing for England, while growing up.
Plumptre was arguably the best player on the pitch during Nigeria’s round of 16 clash with England at the FIFA World Cup in Australia on Monday.
The left back who represented England at the U17s before switching allegiance to Nigeria, struck the woodwork and forced a save out of the goalkeeper in the first half.
Reflecting on her performance against the European Champions, Plumptre expressed her excitement and nervousness before thegame due to her tie with both nation.
She’s however emphasized that she had no grudges with England, stating that, she is in the right place and appreciates the opportunity to play alongside her current teammates.
“In the build-up to the game, I think I was feeling really excited and really nervous, for me, it was just a special moment, it wasn’t necessarily more pressure.
“I was never going into the game with some vendetta against England, I appreciated the experiences I had when I was there growing up.
“But now I can say I am exactly where I am meant to be, and I will remember this match for the experience to play alongside these players,” she said.
