Leicester City’s defender Ashleigh Plumptre said she’s looking forward to representing Nigeria at major tournaments.
Born in England, but Plumptre decided to switch allegiance to Nigeria — the country of her grandparents.
The Leicester City’s defender trained with Super Falcons in Abuja last month ahead of the Awcon qualifying match against Ivory Coast.
“I’m happy to be given the chance to come into the team, but I will have to work hard, so I can remain in there.” She told NFF TV.
“It’s not about me coming from the UK or playing for Leicester City, I have to do and show what I can do.”
On her target, the 23-year-old said, she wants to help the country qualify for major tournaments — starting with next year’s African Women’s Championship.
“We have many good players and I enjoyed working with them and the coach.”
“I would love to play for Nigeria at major tournaments, but we’ll see” She concluded.
Ashleigh Plumtre played for England at the junior team and helped Leicester City gain promotion to Women’s Super League (WSL).
She also helped the Foxes to the FA Women’s Championship title in 2020/21.
