Lagos Seasiders handball club’s winger, Ayomide Martin has expressed his excitement follow his invitation to the Nigeria national handball team for the forthcoming 2020 African Handball Nations Championship and remains optimistic he will make the final list for the competition in Tunisia.
“I am not taking my invitation to the national team lightly, I have a personal fitness trainer and have been working with him closely since the league ended until the national team camp opens on 1st December, this way I’ll to put myself ahead of others so I can make the final list.”
Martins told brila.net that he has the quality to help Nigeria in her quest and believes with his experience from the African games and the 2019 handball league we can secure a ticket for the 2021 World Men’s Handball Championship hopefully finishing in top 5.
Finishing 6th at the 2019 All Africa games with Nigeria’s handball team, Martin says he is motivated to prove his worth after being dropped from the National team in 2018 “As a winger I have an important role in the team, I score goals and can help us qualify for the World championship, I believe this was seen in my games during the league hence my call up, I am very focused and dedicated hopefully I make the final cut for the African championship proper after missing out of the 2018 championship I’ve improved a lot.”
Nigeria’s last appearance at IHF World Men’s Handball Championship was in 1999 after finishing 4th at the 1998 African Men’s Handball Championship they finished 10th.
