Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi and defender Chidozie Awaziem will miss Nigeria‘s African Cup of Nations third place match against Tunisia on Wednesday.
Mikel has struggled for fitness from the beginning of the tournamentand featured in just two of Eagles’ six games at the tournament so far.
The Trabzonspor midfielder picked another knee injury in training which has ruled him out of the game against the Carthage Eagles.
“Mikel picked up an injury in training yesterday and could not train with us. He is not likely to feature against Tunisia, ” Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr told reporters on Tuesday.
“He has played two games already and has a good tournament as well. We must remember there are people who participated in the qualifiers but are not here. He is here with us because he accepted to come to the AFCON without any preconditions.”
Awaziem on his part , will sit out of the game due to suspension.
The young defender picked a yellow card late in the game against Algeria which effectively ruled him out of Wednesday’s battle of the Eagles.
