Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has revealed that there was not much discussion between him and Tammy Abraham before he took the penalty this weekend.
Chelsea won 2-0 against Brighton & Hove Albion, with Jorginho netting the first goal from his side from 12 yards.
Jorginho’s decision to take the penalty was noteworthy, after Ross Barkley recently stepped forward to take one for Chelsea in the Champions League only to blaze a shot over the bar.
Jorginho seems to be back on penalty duty for the Blues now, but Abraham did have some words with the Italian international before the spot kick.
Abraham was also keen to take the step up, but Jorginho pulled rank and the striker quickly backed down.
“He came up and said, ‘You are taking the penalty?’ and I said, ‘yeah’, and so he said ‘OK’,” Jorginho revealed.
Jorginho surely must now be Frank Lampard’s first choice from the penalty spot, as he looks so reliable.
The midfielder’s trademark hop before he takes the kick often wrong foots keepers, and Brighton stopper Mat Ryan did not even move when trying to save his most recent penalty.
