Liverpool ’s appeal over Sadio Mane’s ban rejected by FA

It has been confirmed this afternoon that the Football Association of England have rejected Liverpool star Sadio Mane’s appeal against his three-match ban, following his clash with Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson at the weekend.

The clash came about after a lobbed through ball from Liverpool defender Joel Matip set Mane into a race with Ederson, with the players coming to a head on the edge of the latter’s box.

Ederson, who reached the ball just in front of the pacy Senegalese winger, was left with no choice but to lead with his head in the challenge, as he had stepped outside of his box.

However, Mane, who was stretching to reach the pass, lead with his foot, and accidentally connected with the face of the Citizens onrushing no.1 in a nasty collision.

Mane was subsequently given his marching orders by referee Jon Moss, though fans and pundits alike were immediately divided over whether the decision was the correct one or not.

The 25-year-old was sanctioned with a routine three-match ban for dangerous play, though it was revealed yesterday that Liverpool had lodged an appeal against the verdict, on the grounds of the punishment being ‘excessive.’

However, this appeal has officially been rejected by the FA this afternoon, with Mane now set to miss his side’s Premier League fixtures with Burnley and Leicester City, as well as a Carabao Cup matchup with the Foxes.
