Ndidi Backs Finidi Confident in as Super Eagles Success

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has expressed his support for Finidi George in his new role as head coach of the national team.

Ndidi stated that the position presents a significant opportunity for Finidi to demonstrate his capabilities.

Following a two-year tenure as assistant to former coach Jose Peseiro, the 53 year-old was appointed interim manager, leading the team in two friendlies against Ghana and Mali in Morocco.

Under his guidance, the Super Eagles secured a victory against Ghana but suffered a defeat to Mali.

Despite the mixed results, the performance was deemed sufficient for the former Ajax Amsterdam star to be appointed as the permanent head coach of the Super Eagles.

“It’s a big for him, because he’s been with the team for sometimes now,” Ndidi said.

Ndidi also revealed that Finidi George worked without assistants during the recent friendlies against Ghana and Mali in Morocco.

Despite these challenges, the gaffer managed to lead the team to get the best out of the team.

“I felt bad for him during our last international break in Morocco when we played Ghana and Mali.

“He had no assistance, he was alone, conducting the training, tactics and all of that, but with people coming in to help now. I know he’ll perform better.”

Finidi George has signed a two-year contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Under his leadership, he is tasked with guiding the team to at least the semi-finals of the next African Cup of Nations and the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The former Enyimba’s tenure will begin with World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic later this month.
