Nigeria’s Table Tennis queen Oshonaike to retire after 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Funke Oshanaike has admitted that she will consider retiring after running in the Olympics in 2020 but is keen to secure her legendary status in Nigeria first.

 

In a chat with brila FM, the Africa female number 2 revealed that the 2020 Olympic games in Tokyo, Japan will be her last outing following her silver medal finish at the recently concluded Africa Table Tennis championship in Mauritius.

 

The veteran table tennis player speaking on her immediate future said she isn’t yet ready to quit the game and that her focus is on qualifying to join the league of athletes who have attended 7 Olympic games.

 

Believing that she will achieve this legendary feat in next year’s All Africa Games which will serve as the qualifier for the 2020 Olympics table tennis event.

 

Oshonaike started her playing career on a street called Akeju Street in Shomolu, Lagos, in the early 1980s while very young.
