NPFL title Winner reveals reason behind Plateau United exit

2017 NPFL Champion Lengkat Issa has told www.brila.net his decision to leave Plateau United was for more game time rather than money, following his transfer to newly promoted Jigawa Golden Stars FC.

Issa won the league title with Plateau United in a remarkable season for the Jos-based club, but last season the club barely survived the drop with several senior players get the stick from Club Bosses for the slump.

A managerial reshuffle before the kick off of last season also didn’t help matters. The appointment of Abdul Maikaba didn’t improve the team as was hoped and it left several big names dissatisfied.

Pay cuts and dismissals were the instruments of threat used by the Club hierarchy at various times, and it set the tone for the exodus to follow.

In a chat with www.brila.net, midfielder Lengkat Issa insists he has no regrets from his last days at the club.

But, “What matters to every player is not really money but playing time.

“it was time for me to brace up and leave to face bigger challenges.”

Jigawa GS will compete in the new season of the NPFL after seven years, but the competition will be steep and Issa admits.

“We’re newcomers in the league. Our target is to stabilize ourselves in the league.”
