Oshoala gifts Barcelona resounding victory over former club Arsenal

Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala was on target for Barcelona Femini as they kicked off the Champions League title defense with 4-1 win over Arsenal on Wednesday.

The Nigerian tormented her former team all night as she set up two other goals for her teammates.

Barcelona controlled the game first half, taking the lead through Mariona Caldentey’s rebounded finish in the 32nd minute.

Spanish striker Alexia Putellas made it 2-0 in the 43rd minute after turning home Asisat Oshoala’s cut-back.

Oshoala finally got her goal in the 47th minute to make it 3-0 for Barcelona. The Nigerian raced to a through pass from her teammate and slotted the ball between Arsenal goal keeper’s leg.

Arsenal found some rhythm and grabbed a goal back through Frida Leonhardsen Maanum, bundling home at the back post (74).

Sub Lieke Martens made it 4-1 with a deft finish late on (84), while Putellas saw a stoppage-time penalty saved by Manuela Zinsberger after Jordan Nobbs’ foul on her in the area.

Barca will now take a 4-1 lead into the second leg in England next week.
