Osimhen closing in on Gabriel Batistuta’s All-time Serie A record

Victor Osimhen has equaled Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal record which the Portuguese achieved when he scored in 8 consecutive Serie A games.

Osimhen matched the feat when he scored in Napoli’s 2-0 victory away at Empoli this Saturday.

The Nigerian was in the right place at the right time to meet Guglielmo Vicario’s save, of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s effort, to double Napoli’s lead.

The forward is closing in on Gabriel Batistuta’s all-time record of 11 goals in a row, which the Argentine achieved at Fiorentina in the 1994-95 season.

But matched Sampdoria’s Fabio Quagliarella in the 2018-19 season and Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus in 2019-20.

Osimhen, however, achieved his record without penalties and the only players who did better without spot-kicks were David Trezeguet with nine for Juventus in 2005-06 and Ezio Pascutti’s 10 for Bologna in 1962-63.
