Osimhen injured again, as Napoli outclass Liverpool

Victor Osimhen was in action as Napoli got their UEFA Champions League campaign under way with a comfortable win over English side Liverpool.

Osimhen passed a late fitness test and was named in the starting XI in a surprise 4-1 win over Liverpool at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

It was almost the perfect start for Osimhen as he almost put his side ahead inside the second minute.

The striker chased a long ball behind Liverpool defense and rounded Alisson Becker, only for his shot to to hit the post.

Not long after Napoli went ahead from the penalty spot, the Nigerian later drew a foul from Dutchman Vigil van Dijk in the box, however his spot kick was beaten away by Alisson.

Luciano Spalleti’s side took the lead through Piotr Zielinski’s spot kick from handball offence by James Milner.

The second goal arrived, Andre Zambo Anguissa slicing the ball pass the near post as Becker rush out to cover the Cameroonian’s sight on goal.

Osimhen had been in doubt with a muscular problem and pulled up mid-run to be replaced by Giovanni Simeone before half-time.

It proved an inspired change, as Simeone scored with his first touch in his first Champions League game.

Napoli grabbed their fourth later on, after Alisson parried Zielinski’s first time shot, but the follow up was a calm dink over the Brazilian goalie.

Liverpool got a consolation as Luis Diaz cut inside Anguissa and curled into the far bottom corner.

Following Wednesday’s outcome, Napoli stay second behind Ajax who beat Rangers 3-0, while the Reds are third in the Group A standings.
