Following the draw that has pitched the D’Tigers in the same qualification group alongside​ Mali, Rwanda and Uganda for the 2019 FIBA basketball World Cup qualifiers, member of the outgoing Board of the NBBF Patrick Omorodion in a chat with Brila.net has stated that though the major threat would be posted by Mali, if the NBBF get the required funds from the Ministry to give the Basketball National Team the sort of preparation that would be mapped out, the country would break the jinx of failing to make the preliminary round of the global event since 2006.
