The dichotomy of foreign and home based players in the national teams presents a talking point that already proliferates sports with the biases and subjective views expressed by professionals and fanatics.

But the truth behind the concept of tokenism, Affirmative action or quota system is that it serves a functional purpose and NBBF Technical Committee member, Ajibarede Bello quite agrees.

In a chat with www.brila.net, Bello backed the idea of open camps for national teams, where those good enough get selected on performance basis, leaving no room for sentiments.

Speaking on a more personal note though, the Basketball administrator believes a certain good can come from creating a quota system in national teams selections.

He said : “If I’m in the position to take a decision, I’d insist on every national team going out to take two home based players. But, it’s a bigger equation than that.”
