Samuel Kalu ruled out until 2021

Bordeaux manager Jean-Louis Gasset has confirmed that Nigeria international Samuel Kalu has been ruled out of action until 2021, following a relapse in his injury.

The 23-year-old suffered a hamstring injury while on international duty with Nigeria in their friendly against Algeria in Austria in October and has since been out of action, missing the Super Eagles double-header against Sierra Leone last month.

Kalu suffered another injury setback in training during the team’s Ligue 1 outing against Brest, after he had recovered from the thigh muscle strain.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s Ligue 1 encounter against Lille, Gasset disclosed that Kalu will not be available for selection until after the winter break.

“They (Kalu and Koscielny) had an MRI. I was very optimistic but unfortunately, I must have been disillusioned,” the manager told girondins33.

“The examination revealed a lesion for both. They are minimal lesions but which require a fortnight’s rest. They will not play again and by the winter break, we will see them again in 2021.”

Prior to his injury, Kalu had scored two goals in seven league appearances for Bordeaux this season.
