Samuel Kalu shines as Watford ends poor home record

Nigerian winger Samuel Kalu was handed a place in Watford’s starting 11 and was impressive against Everton on Wednesday.

 

It was his first start in the Premier League for the Hornets, since signing for them in January.

 

The winger who has battled injury and poor since his move from Bordeaux had a good game against the Toffees and was among the best players on the pitch.

 

Samuel Kalu a bright spark, combined well with Ken Sema down the left, before firing over after 18 minutes.

 

Kalu’s free-kick in a dangerous position cleared Jordan Pickford’s crossbar and he was applauded by the fan for his influence on the team.

 

The match ended without a goal, but the result was very much appreciated by the crowd as already relegated Watford showed improvement after a defeat to Crystal Palace last weekend.

 

Following the draw, Watford have now picked up their first point at Vicarage Road since a 4-1 victory against Man Utd in November, ending a run of 11 successive home Premier League defeats.

 

They also kept their first home clean sheet in the Premier League since beating Liverpool 3-0 in February 2020, having conceded in 22 consecutive matches at Vicarage Road in the competition before stalemate against Everton.
