Veteran Nigeria Professional Football League goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai has stated that the solution to the goalkeeping concerns in the Super Eagles can be found in the Nigerian league.
Afelokhai believes good goalkeepers can be scouted from the NPFL, however it will only happen when the national team coaches are bold enough to back a domestic league shot stopper like their predecessors did 20 years ago when Vincent Enyeama, who was first choice at Enyimba.
In a chat with www.brila.net, Afelokhai stressed that handing the national team goalkeeping position to an home based is now an option.
‘Our coaches should explore the NPFL option to address this crisis, and give it the right level of backing, now more than ever, after the number of inconsistent display by the current goalkeepers in the Super Eagles.’
