“The team is struggling”, Simy Nwankwo plays down personal goals record

Nigerian international Simy Nwankwo says he is not a happy man, despite becoming the highest scoring Nigerian in Italian Serie A.

Nwankwo dethroned Obafemi Martins to become the highest-scoring Nigerian with a brace in Crotone 4-3 over Parma at the Stadio Ennio Tardini on Saturday.

The 28-year-old has now netted 29 Serie A goals in 77 Serie A matches,  playing 11 games fewer than Martins who represented Inter Milan.

Speaking to SkySports Italia, Nwankwo admitted that reaching such a number of go’s isn’t easy, but he insisted that not happy because of the team’s overall performance in the league.

”Reaching such goals in a very difficult championship like the Italian one is nice, but I can’t be 100% happy,”

“The team counts. We are struggling and I can’t be happy,” he stated.

Crotone are languishing at the bottom of the table with just 18 points from 33 matches and the striker has been linked with a move elsewhere.

“I don’t think about it. I have too much respect for my people to talk about the future, now I can’t think of anything else,” concluded the striker.
