Udeze faults Argentina’s penalty against Saudi Arabia

Former Super Eagles defender Ifeanyi Udeze described as unfair the Referee decision to award a penalty against Saudi Arabia in the FIFA World Cup, Group C match against Argentina.

Speaking about the game, Udeze questioned the penalty kick awarded to Argentina in the first-half of the game.

Although Saudi Arabia eventually recovered from the set back and defeated the South Americans 2-1, the former Nigerian player was unimpressed with some of the refereeing decisions.

Udeze noted that the application of VAR is inconsistent, adding that some of the decisions in favor of Argentina were not awarded during the England-Iran clash on Monday.

“It was a very big shock how the game turned out,” Udeze said during the World Cup match coverage on Brila FM.

“England were denied a clear penalty by the referee and VAR,” he noted.

“However the referee and VAR didn’t hesitate to award a penalty to Argentina in a similar manner against Saudi Arabia.

“VAR is brought to the game to ensure there’s equity and to cut off errors but it should be consistent with the decisions.

“Messi’s goal was indeed an offside,” He said Brila FM.
