We are not in Costa Rica to make up the numbers — Danjuma

Falconets head coach Chris Danjuma said his side is ready for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.

The Falconets will start their group stage fixtures against France on Thursday, before taking on Korea Republic on Sunday and Canada on Wednesday.

The Falconets have good experience at the tournament, haven reached the final twice (2010 and 2014), but narrowly missed out on the title.

Speaking on the team’s target, Danjuma said the Falconets are in Costa Rica to better their previous final record.

“The World Cup is always an interesting experience for the coaches and the players, and I am sure it is the same for other professionals who get to be involved.

“We took a long route to get here, having to play four different teams in the qualifying series. I can tell you that we are prepared to make Nigeria and Africa proud.

“It is not about being here to make up the number; it is about being here to make an impact,”He said.

The team trained for the first time in Costa Rica on Monday at the Alajuela Stadium and will have another session, Tuesday, at the Stadio Piedades Santa Ana.
