We can’t risk him! Napoli boss Spalletti on Osimhen’s continued Absence

Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti has explained why he left Victor Osimhen out of Napoli’s trip to Cremonese on Sunday.

Osimhen was expected to make his long awaited return from injury and feature against Cremonese, after returning to first team training.

But, the 23-year-old was left out of the matchday squad completely as Spalletti kept faith with the in form attacking trio of Giacomo Raspadori and Giovanni Simeone, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

It proved to be a good decision also, with Napoli leaving Cremonese 4-1 winners and opened up two points on Serie A table in the process.

Speaking after the game, Spalletti explained why the Nigerian forward is yet to return to the squad.

“We can’t risk Victor Osimhen,” Spalletti said. “We want to have him back, but he needs to be in top condition.

“He needs more time training at a high intensity,” Spalletti concluded.

The Neapolitans have won all of their games since Osimhen’s injury and will hope to continue in the same vein against Ajax on Wednesday.
