What away points against south-west teams could mean to MFM this season

Adeniji Kabir scored the only goal of the game to give MFM Football Club of Lagos their first away win in the 2018/2019 Nigeria Professional Football League after three attempts.

MFM had previously lost to Enyimba of Aba and Rivers United away from home this season and doubt was raised over the team‘s ability to grind out results on the road which cost them the title back in 2017.

However, The Olukoya Boys has no better place to win points away from home other than Osogbo Township Stadium, a temporary ground of Remo Stars following their banishment from Gateway Stadium in Sagam amid crowd trouble and coupled with the fact that the Ikenne Landlords decided to change manager with few days into their first match of the season, a move which has halted the team’s structure and chemistry.

The game at Osogbo on Wednesday was a perfect opportunity for Fidelis Ilechukwu boys to get the much desired away win, they took the opportunity perfectly and continued their dominance of the Sky Blues.

With difficult trips to giants like Lobi Stars and Rangers International still to come, the Club fans can only dream of more away wins against Southwest teams like Sunshine Stars of Akure and Kwara United of Ilorin , if they are to stand a chance of fighting for the title come end of the season.

With 12 points from 6 matches, the Lagos based team are sitting pretty on top of the Group A, Rivers United is the closest with 9 points while favourites Rangers of Enugu and Lobi Stars lies in sixth and seventh position respectively, although with three gameless , no thanks to continental distractions.

Next for MFM is bottom placed Niger Tornadoes who are yet to win a game this season and a win on Sunday at the Soccer Temple in Agege will strengthen their grip of spot spot in Group A.
