Why Home based Players are Overlooked for Super Eagles Invites – Noble

Enyimba goalkeeper John Noble has implored national team selectors to scout more players from the NPFL for the Super Eagles.

In a chat with www.brila.net Noble backed the case of more players from the domestic league to get their shots in the Super Eagles.

He argued that the Country can produce more top talents like it did in the past, but admits the coaches should be allowed time to pick the best who can add value to the team.

When he was asked if he thought the selection process needed to be more transparent, the goalkeeper said:

“It is something that goes beyond just playing in the league, it’s about experience and ability of the Players to develop and adapt fast.

“You know there are some good players in the league, but they’ll struggle when it comes to the National team, because it’s different at that level.

“Imagine, you’ll see some players do wonders in the NPFL and when they go abroad, they find it difficult to adapt.

“But, I believe the coaches need to be given time to know everyone, and select the best out of us that can fit into the team proper.”

Noble then stressed further that Coaches’ preference for selecting players who play in Europe is no secret and it is because of the pressure to deliver results.

“I listened to people saying that players in the league aren’t invited, but I’ve been in the national team for sometime now and I know what the environment is like.

“The pressure on the coaches is much. They are expected to win every game and play well. So sometimes it’s not easy.”

With the African Nations Championship approaching, Noble however believes, the tournament is a perfect opportunity for the Home based players to prove their quality to the Super Eagles handlers.

“I believe that if we go to CHAN and perform well, it could give room for many players to come into the main team,” He concluded.
