Why Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers dropped Ndidi

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed why midfielder Wilfred Ndidi started the boxing day clash with Newcastle United from the bench.

Ndidi, regular for the former Premier League Champions for three seasons, came off the bench in the second half of the 3-0 home defeat to the Magpies, despite being fully fit.

It was an usual decision from the Leicester City boss who opted to field to Nampalys Mendy and Boubakary Soumare in front of the back four.

Rodgers however revealed, he took the decision, due to Ndidi’s recent injury history.

“We’ve got a really busy schedule in January,” Rodgers told Leicester Mercury.

“I had a sit-down with him and an honest conversation with him. He has struggled with injuries.

“It’s sometimes coming away from the team and working on the training field. I can see his freshness.

“There’s no doubt over the coming weeks he will get opportunities,” the Coach said.

Ndidi has played only 10 Premier League games for the Foxes this season.
