Over two decades since he left Vitória Setúbal, Nigerian goal Legend, Rashidi Yekini is still adored and revered in the small Portuguese city according to FC Porto loanee, Mikel Ndubusi Agu.
Yekini enjoyed over four seasons in his two spells with the club, helping them gain promotion to the Primeira Liga in the 1992/93 season and was top scorer for the club and in the top flight the following season.
Meanwhile, one man is benefiting off that cult hero status of Yekini.
Midfielder, Mikel Agu joined Setúbal on loan from FC Porto for a season and has settled in well; both on and off the pitch.
Agu told brila.net that he became an instant hit with the locals as they realized he hails from the same Country as the one they have also come to adore.
He said Club President, Fernando Oliveira intimated him on how he personal traveled to Ivory Coast , where he urged then Africa Sports‘ striker, Yekini to join the modest Portuguese side.
Agu says he’s enjoying life in Setúbal particularly because he gets game time at the Primeira Liga side.
The 23-year-old has made 25 appearances for the club since joining on loan this season.
