Nigeria duo of Blessing Onyebuchi and Mercy Genesis capped a memorable week for Nigeria Wrestling after winning gold and silver respectively at the inaugural ANOC World Beach Games in Doha Qatar.
African champion Blessing Onyebuchi won the historic gold medal in beach wrestling in the +70kg category after thrashing Ecuador’s Rosangela Reasco Valdez 3-0 in a one-sided final at the famous Katara beach on Tuesday.
On Monday, Mercy Genesis lost 3-2 to Brazilian Kamila Barbosa Vito Da Silva to settle for silver in the 50kg class. Genesis had already defeated Da Silva 4-2 in the group stage, but failed to repeat the feat in the final.
The success of the the duo at the games wrapped up a memorable week for Nigeria wrestling who are still basking on the euphoria of rise of Odunayo Adekuoroye and Blessing Oborududu to world number two and three respectively.
