Club confirms the abduction of Super Eagles midfielder

Enyimba Football Club have confirmed that one of their players, Ekundayo Ojo has been abducted by gunmen along the Benin-Owo expressway.

According to a statement released by the current Nigerian professional football league Champions, the incident occurred on Sunday, March 22 as the player and his teammate were on their way to Akure to be with their families following the suspension of the Nigeria Professional Football League amid concerns over the global pandemic, Covid-19.

 

Ojo and Abia Startlets player Benjamin Iluyomade were kidnapped by the Gunmen as teammate Emmanuel James escaped from the scene.

 

Enyimba FC revealed they have since maintained close contact with Ojo’s family, as efforts are already in place to ensure the player’s release from his abductors.

 

Ojo who represented the Chan Eagles joined s Enyimba from Nigeria professional football league side Sunshine stars of Akure this season.

 

The player helped the Aba giants to the last eight of this season’s CAF Confederation Cup, where they lost to Horoya AFC of Guinea.
