Diamond League Final: Amusan aims to finish year on high

Tobi Amusan, has dropped in the rankings ahead of the Diamond League final in Eugene, Oregon.

According to the weekly rankings released by World Athletics, the former world champion fell from 25th to 33rd place overall ranking and she has slipped from second to third position in the 100m women’s hurdle.

At the start of the year, the Nigerian athlete was ranked as the fifth best in the world and was number one in her event, following her victory at the World Athletics Championships last year.

However, she lost her world title last month in Budapest, Hungary, which means she will not only be aiming to defend her title at the Diamond League but also to regain her number one status in the hurdles event.

Amusan, with a total score of 1414 points, will need to perform exceptionally well, possibly even breaking her own world record of 12.12 seconds, in order to surpass Camacho-Quinn, who currently holds the top spot in the rankings with 1437 points.

Kendra Harrison, the former world record holder, currently occupies the second position in the rankings with 1420 points.

Amusan’s performance this weekend will be crucial as she aims to make a strong comeback and secure her position as one of the top contenders in the women’s 100m hurdles.
