The laughable Cristiano Ronaldo bust looked unbeatable as the worst footballer effigy of all time.
At least, that was until a ridiculous bronze sculpture of Diego Maradona appeared in India.
Now, there’s another contender for the unwanted title in the form of a Michael Essien statue.
The life-size model of the former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Ghana midfielder has been installed at the roadside in Oduom, a small town in the Ashanti region of his home nation.
At best, it’s interesting. At worst, it’s an abomination.
Saddick Adams, a sports journalist based in Ghana, took a picture of the statue and shared it on Twitter on Monday.
Hello @MichaelEssien, I’m not sure you’re aware of this your huge honour in Kumasi at that popular Boadi Road. Yesterday the sculpture opened the fence around it was and I saw kids & adults take turns to take pictures. I was humbled. Ghana still loves you. It’s Beautiful gift pic.twitter.com/y1CItDP9qW
