Alex Iwobi says he always believe he’ll succeed at Everton, despite his tough start to life at the club.
Iwobi joined the Toffees in a £28.5m from Arsenal in 2019, but he struggled to perform and was labelled a flop by a section of the fans and media.
The Nigeria international however has turned things around, and has gone on to become arguably the best player at the club for the past few months.
He was named the man of the match against West Ham United just before the September international break and in the race for the League’s player of the month accolade.
Asked was there ever a moment where he thought things wouldn’t work out at Everton, Iwobi said :
“No,” Iwobi explains, without hesitation. “I never had the mindset that it wasn’t going to work here.
“I had the mindset that I’d turn it around and when the opportunity came with the new manager, I used it as a new chapter of my life and said to myself, ‘Forget the past. What’s happened has happened… Now let’s go again.
“What I realized here is fans appreciate 100 per cent, as long as you show that you can do everything because there’s a reason you’re here at Everton – because you have ability,” He said.
Iwobi has featured in all Everton’s Premier League games this season.
