William Troost-Ekong says he’s delighted to captain the Watford Football Club for the first time.
Ekong wore the captain armband for the Hornets against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
Ekong has been a key figure in Watford’s dressing room since he joined the team from Udinese in 2020 and was instrumental in their promotion back to the elite division.
In his appreciation message to the fans, Ekong said he’s delighted to wear armband and promised to defend the team always.
“Absolute honour to lead the boys out for the first time over the weekend. Will always do my best for the team. ” he said on Monday.
Should Ekong keep the armband permanently, he will become the latest Nigerian to captain a team in the Premier League after Austin Okocha and Joseph Yobo.
