National Sports Festival: Segun Toriola out, as Table Tennis event starts today

Segun Toriola has been disqualified from National Sports Festival after he was registered by two states. This was made known by John Peters, the head of the table tennis technical committee on Thursday.

Peters, who spoke to the media after a technical committee meeting of four hours, said the para and able-bodied table tennis event scheduled for yesterday (Thursday) could not hold due to the classification of disabled athletes and Segun Toriola’s disqualification.

John Peters added that players from 32 states have will compete in the table tennis event at the Abuja games.

“The draw for deaf players is ready and the list is in order. The draw for the para players is not ready because the officials have to finish the classification of players.”

“For the able players’ games, one Segun Toriola has been registered twice by two different states, Akwa Ibom and Delta, and the rule says we should disqualify such a player. That is what we have done.”

“So, we cannot start the competition today. We have to put everything in order and we are still expecting other states. They may arrive before Friday morning.” He added

Peters now Said the competition will go on today (Friday) at 10 a.m.
