Nigerian Weightlifters Get Saudi Arabia Nod

In preparation for the 2023 International Weightlifting Championship in Saudi Arabia, the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF) has unveiled a formidable team of six lifters who will represent the country on the global stage.

Team Nigeria comprises four Women and two Men, and the team boasts an impressive lineup of talented athletes.

 

 

Among the Women, 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medalists Folashade Lawal and Adijat Olarinoye, who will be competing in the 55kg category.

 

Joining them is the 2019 African Games gold medalist Joy Ogbonna, who will be competing in the 71kg category, as well as multiple national champion, Ruth Ayodele.

The Men contingent also features the Commonwealth Games bronze medalist, Edidiong Umofia, in the 73kg category. Additionally, the team includes the 2019 All Africa Games silver medalist, Desmond Akano, who will be competing in the 89kg category.

The championship itself promises to be a fierce battle, with a staggering total of 117 countries participating.

A grand total of 719 lifters, consisting of 365 men and 354 women, will be vying for honors in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
