Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti says Victor Osimhen isn’t at his best yet, but is pleased to see the striker make his long awaited return from injury.
Osimhen came off the bench for his comeback in Wednesday Champions League clash against Ajax Amsterdam in Naples.
The Nigeria international was caught offside several times and fired over from six yards, before scoring in the final minute of the added time.
Spalletti explained why he brought on the forward, adding that, he was too desperate to score goal.
“Osimhen was often offside because he was so eager that he started the runs early,” explained Spalletti.
“He is not yet in the right shape to help out his teammates, but we tried to keep the ball more in the second half and use Osimhen’s ability in the air for long balls.”
The goal was Osimhen’s first in the Champions League this season and third in all competitions.
Meanwhile, Wednesday’s victory was Napoli’s ninth consecutive win in all competitions.
