Golden Eaglets head coach, Nduka Ugbade has insisted that the team is ready to go ahead of their CAF U17 Africa Cup of Nations campaign happening just eight days from today (Friday).
In a chat with BRL, Ugbade stated that the NFF is providing the team “necessary support” to have a good campaign in Algeria.
“We are all switched on and we know the competition is on the 29th of this month, and our first match against Zambia will be on the 30th,” the Coach said.
“This is what we are fine-tuning for because we are not looking at the competition as a whole talking about the trophy.
“As you know we have never won the U17 AFCON before. The best we have done is the second place and mostly among those who make it to the World Cup.
“This time, the NFF has given us a mandate that we should try all we can to at least get out of our group stage, and then win the quarter-final, which is the most important because when you get to the semi-final, you are sure of the World Cup ticket. Then we start pursuing on how we are going to get to the final, and then push to win the last match and win the trophy.”
“We want to do everything humanly possible at least to get this done (winning the trophy) if possible, but the most important thing is to get ourselves to the World Cup,” Ugbade insisted.
The Eaglets will begin their campaign against Zambia on May 30th.
