Marseille leapfrogs West Ham, Nice in race for Moffi

Terem Moffi’s transfer from Lorient has taken another twist, with Olympique Marseille now said to be leading the race.

The French giants Olympique Marseille is said to have reached a verbal agreement with Lorient for the transfer of the Nigerian striker.

It was claimed that Lorient appreciate Marseille’s proposal which includes €20m plus Senegalese forward Bamba Dieng, who is valued at €8m moving in the opposite direction.

OG Nice is another club strongly interested in the striker, along with Premier League side West Ham.

Nice and West Ham have held talks with Lorient, but no agreement was reached, which paved way for Marseille to join the race.

It is understood Nice presented a bid short of the player’s valuation, and West Ham United wasn’t the player’s preferred destination.

Should Marseille manage to get the deal over the line, Moffi will be a massive boost for their aim of qualifying for the Champions League.

Moffi was impressive when Lorient played Marseille January 14 and scored his side’s only goal in the 3-1 defeat.

He has twelve goals in eighteen goals for Lorient this season, just one behind Kylian Mbappe.

Moffi scored 35 goals in 90 games since his arrival in Brittany two years ago for an €8m fee.
